spill proof cup review

With so many options out there, where do parents even start with sippy cups? I did it the entirely wrong way, probably. My son is two and a half now, and he’s been using exclusively sippy cups for about 10 months. In those 10 months we’ve tried practically every option on the grocery store shelf. We’ve also learned that claims of “spill proof” and “leak resistant” are marketing and what appears to be guesswork on the part of the manufacturers.

Our current favorite is a spout-less Playtex model.

Its lid secures tightly enough, and the rubber valve keeps it from actively releasing liquid whilst being thrown and dropped from various heights.

That is not to say that it is entirely leak-proof; there is still room enough for liquid to get trapped between the rim and the lid’s opening. And when I say trapped, I mean temporarily suspended, because of course it’s only there until the next tumble. It has zero insulation, though, so it is not necessarily ideal for car trips.

So, 10 months in is probably the right time to start actually researching cups, right? Or at least browsing the product reviews on Amazon.

There really is a multitude of choices out there, and all of them claim to be the best of the best.

The price range is varied, with some stainless steel options going for close to $20 a piece.

One that has piqued my interest is the Munchkin Insulated version, with the all-important click lock lid. With all the state-of-the-art options, this one caught my attention because the company offers a leak/drip-proof guarantee. Amazon reviews are mixed, but mostly positive. At $10 for a pack of two online, Munchkin products are usually inexpensive in stores, too.

Each child is different, and they will make themselves known. So, undoubtedly your child will make the decision about which sippy cup works best. In the end, something that is easy to clean, inexpensive and durable is going to be the most logical choice.
